Texlive updating tlmgr 2016

Or you could ditch the Debian tl completely and just use upstream TL.

./runme.sh: Please set your PATH as needed, otherwise it's hopeless. done [12/20, /] auto-install: phffullpagefigure (41857) [250k] ...

Can anyone please help me understand what needs to be done, for example: I don't understand why is it still asking for a "PATH" given the fact that I have already set it up typing the following line in the terminal: tlmgr: package repository (verified) tlmgr: saving backups to /usr/local/texlive/2016/tlpkg/backups tlmgr: no self-updates for tlmgr available. done [13/20, /] auto-install: phfnote (41858) [667k] ...

at /usr/share/texlive/tlpkg/Te XLive/line 210, I thought I will be able to live without tlmgr untill I will get a little bit more comfortable with the tex as such but it seems that I have no package for handling Polish characters (polski.sty).

Is it possible to fix the issues with tlmgr or should I switch to Tex Live2016 (as this discussion suggests)?

It is important to understand that for Te X Live these two parts of the distribution are effectively on separate update schedules, and this can lead to some confusion during the period in which the major updates of binaries is taking place.

The Te X Live updates for the previous years are no longer available. Te XLive 2011, you can update its packages roughly until Te XLive 2012 is created.

at /usr/share/texlive/tlpkg/Te XLive/line 210, I saw many people with the same error, but the answers were generally to switch to the 2015 repository.

I read that running update-tlmgr-latest.sh, available here, could help, but it only outputs this: Verifying archive integrity... Uncompressing Te X Live Manager Updater............................................................................................................................................................................ ./runme.sh: Cannot find Te X Live root using kpsewhich --var-value=SELFAUTOPARENT.

at /usr/share/texlive/tlpkg/Te XLive/line 210, line 5579. [email protected]:/home/masi/Downloads/t/install-tl-20161019# tlmgr update --self (running on Debian, switching to user mode! at /usr/share/texlive/tlpkg/Te XLive/line 210, Exactly, then of course you cannot expect that upstream features also apply to you.

./runme.sh: Please set your PATH as needed, otherwise it's hopeless.

And I changed the path to /home/user/texlive/2016/bin/x86_64-linux.
